Let’s start at the beginning: what is a Roo? Well, many moons ago, when T and I met, long before engagement, wedding, or child, I had 2 dogs and a cat, who I had adopted. Cheech was the pug, and he was too old for a name change (trust me, I tried.) So, many nicknames later (Fat Man in a Little Coat was a personal fave), he went by Cheech-a-roo. Needless to say, my then future-husband, decided to call me “Uncle Roos” (I don’t get it either), and changed it to Momma Roo when G was baking. He, of course, was Poppa Roo, and G was Baby Roo. (Yes, that was hardly a spoiler). So, there you have it…the Roo family.
Now, the last few weeks have been way too cold in GA, so when discussing summer plans, there were 3 definite criteria:
1.) Check out a new cruise line to share with my wonderful readers.
2.) Somewhere warm. Or hot.
3.) A beach.
Sooo…we went back and forth between 2 itineraries and are pleased to have finally come to a conclusion. As a wildly devoted Parrothead, when I found out about Margaritaville at Sea on Norwegian Cruise Lines, I was all in! The itinerary, though, was a tough choice! The Getaway is headed to Roatan, Honduras, the private island of Harvest Caye, Belize, Costa Maya, Mexico, and Cozumel, Mexico. The Escape is headed to 3 days in Bermuda, docked in the Naval Boatyard. The appeal of both ships is the “Freestyle” approach to cruising-no reservations, no formal nights. (YAY-flip flops for the cruise, and yes, I promise to bring pretty ones for dinner!) I want to pack up some bathing suits and hit the high seas! Even G is getting majorly excited over the next cruise and checking out some new hotspots.
After much contemplation, we decided on the Getaway-this time…with the Escape in the near future, and Hawaii and Alaska on our future list! After the manatee, sea lion, and dolphin swim/encounter at Chakanaab National Park in Cozumel, I felt that T needed to go. The day was a dream: with all you can eat buffet (and the best ceviche I have ever had), unlimited beverages-margaritas were great, seeing the sea lion show twice, and the manatee and dolphin swims, it was a no-brainer! Also, after so many years of marriage, I didn’t want to wind up missing in the Triangle (I’m kidding, but my sense of direction needs life support, and I’m pretty sure I’d just get lost!)
Escape the Big Top’s interactive show and Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar aren’t ready for a Roo Invasion. 🙂 We booked a Spa Mini Suite for included access to the thermal spa room. The deals right now are truly unbeatable! Free beverage packages, free wifi, Signature Dining Credits, Excursion Credits…
So as the main leader of my gang of beach bums, the amazing Jimmy Buffett, says in “Boat Drinks”: I wanna go where it’s warm! I am following his advice. This spring has been chilly and I need to break in my new sun hat. I may even let the straw hat chill this trip…or not. We shall see.
